Our Story
We believe in building relationships.
We have travelled back home to visit the local farms in Minas Gerais, and propose a partnership within selected farmers: buildup a direct trade where Y Coffee would invest in their harvest, and the farms would produce small batches of specialty coffee to be exported into Ireland. Simple, direct, fair.
Our mission is to show where these beans come from, not just where they are roasted. Bring the REAL Specialty Coffee to the Market, with high standards proven by SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) and all its benefits such as Organic Production and Sustainability Certifications, connecting real-life coffee farmers to coffee lovers along a fair chain, with reasonable prices and profit for all.
Why name it Y?
The letter Y and it’s pronunciation in this case serves as an acronym to the most popular expression in Minas Gerais, “UAI”.
Brazil is the biggest coffee producer in the world, especially in relation to Arabica beans. Minas Gerais concentrates the production, supplying coffee nation and worldwide. According to ABIC (Brazilian Coffee Industry Association), the State has been responsible for nearly 20% of the coffee consumed in the whole planet in 2022.
This is a huge achievement to be explored and a beautiful history to spread across coffee market in Ireland, and consequently, Europe.
The expression “Café UAI” is popularly used as the answer of “What are you having for breakfast/now?” all over the State of Minas Gerais. Now we have the chance of bringing it into Ireland as Coffee Y, letting our customers know the entire process coffee beans do from the farm all the way to the espresso cup. This is absolutely important!
